Phil Taylor has more than earned his fair share during his time with the Professional Darts Corporation, but 'The Power' thinks a compatriot of his could and maybe should, have had a great career with the PDC as well.
According to the 16-time world champion, Martin Adams could also have made millions had 'Wolfie' made the switch. The two darts legends recently met at the World Seniors Champion of Champions. Taylor was ahead 9-6 in that match, but the win eventually went to Adams 9-10.
The two Englishmen had met before, when Taylor was also active in the BDO. Taylor was one of the players involved in the creation of the World Darts Council (WDC), the forerunner of the PDC. Adams, however, remained loyal to the BDO. More than 30 years later, Taylor thinks Adams would have been one of the top earners in the sport had he joined the group of players who left the BDO like 'The Power.'
“I know he was England captain, he was proud to be that. He sticks by what he believes in. But when I look at Martin now, I think: ‘You could have been a multi, multi-millionaire,'" Taylor assessed to Online Darts prior to the recent clash between the two greats.
“He might be one, I don’t know, but he had the talent to get up there and be in the top three in the world. Could he have made a splash on the PDC? I don’t think he would – I know he would have done,'' Taylor continued. The 63-year-old darts legend from Stoke-on-Trent also thinks Adams could have become a better player at the PDC.
“It would have improved Martin and his game. He was a good practiser. If you look at his style, I think he has probably one of the nicest styles in darts. He’s a good finisher, a good scorer. Very good under pressure. I don’t know how his mind works now, he has had a few health and personal problems in his life, which have affected him a little bit. But as a player, 20-25 years ago, one of the best in the world,'' Taylor said.
