After the Christmas break, three Dutchmen are still in action in the third round of the World Darts Championship. Vincent van der Voort looked back on the first two rounds in a new episode of the podcast 'Darts Draait Door' and two performances by Dutchmen in particular caught his eye.

Top of the list for Van der Voort is Kevin Doets' upset against second seed Michael Smith. "I thought that was great. Especially how he played there and how he finished it off. Smith was really on target in that last set as well and he played really well. If you still manage to turn it around, big class what he put down. He is doing well at this tournament," said Van der Voort.

"Last year it was poor Kevin Doets. Who plays two games in one night, which is already very difficult, comes so close, loses and basically nobody is talking about you anymore because you are out on the opening day of the tournament," recalls Van der Voort. "While he played a very good World Championship actually. Then this is very nice of course, that it is still there. This victory is obviously great, also the way in which. I thought it was a complete, good match. Mentally super strong. And also in terms of level. So he is going to benefit from this in his career."

In addition to Doets' standout performance, Van der Voort obviously couldn't ignore Christian Kist's nine darter. "I thought that was fantastic, top. Also his reaction afterwards, that he was sick of losing. That the nine darter was nice, but that he was still really disappointed," says the experienced Dutchman. "Then you see that the match mentality is top."

"I think in hindsight now he is also happy with that 60 thousand pounds," Van der Voort adds. "Because that is very important for his career. He obviously has a tour card now and he can use that money well to invest in his career. Think he is not yet in the position to give up his job. But it's really to his credit."

Van der Voort, by the way, thinks it is a commendable initiative of main sponsor Paddy Powers to give 60000 pounds again to the player concerned, the charity and someone from the audience for every nine darter. "Normally you have that prize once, but if it's done again they just do it again. I really like that. And also those 180s, that every time a thousand pounds goes to charity. Last year I think they rounded that up to a million, so obviously that's really good."
