Scott Williams pulled off a slight upset in the second round of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship by beating fifth-seeded Rob Cross 3-1 at the Alexandra Palace. 'Shaggy' now gets to take on Ricardo Pietreczko in the last 32.
There were a number of incidents during his match against Cross. For starters, Williams was annoyed by a camera on the stage when throwing for the opening set. "What put me off was one of the cameras was moving whilst I was going for the double and I could see it in my eyeline," Williams said of the incident afterwards. "Whether the guy was a new guy and didn’t know what he was doing, I don’t know. That put me off a little bit and I wasn’t happy about that. I expressed my feelings and it was sorted from there. But I probably should have won that 3-0. I probably could have won it 3-0. Whether I should have is a different matter. He (Cross) missed doubles and he gave me a chance. When you get given the chance, you have to take it.”

In addition, there was a commotion at the end of the second set when Cross made a lewd gesture after losing that set 3-0. Cross would later indicate that it was meant towards his manager. Williams also declined to comment on Cross' when questioned about it in his post-match press conference afterwards.
“Firstly, I wasn’t aware of anything. Secondly, regardless of what he did, I don’t really care. I’ve just played one of my best, closest pals for £10,000. There’s not many people who have done that, so I’m not bothered at what he did,” 'Shaggy' said post-match. “We had a chat before and we had a chat afterwards. I love him and he’s great. We’ll see each other over Christmas and over the next couple of months and whatever he’s doing and we’ll be exactly the same. I’ve got to pop round his house to drop off the Christmas presents for the kids and I’ve got to pick some up for my kids. That’s how close we are. But I’m not there to be an a*** to someone that isn’t an a*** to me. He didn’t give it massive. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do and, if the person in front of you is giving it, you give it back. It’s a tough game.”
