Gian van Veen has qualified for the third round of the
Czech Darts Open with a strong performance. The 22-year-old Dutchman beat James Wade 6-2 in the second round and will now face Luke Humphries.
Van Veen, the fourteenth seed at the Czech Darts Open, was not fortunate to have James Wade as his first opponent.
"Playing James (Wade) first game on for me at least is always a tough draw. But 97 average, it felt good. I think 140 checkout in the second leg really changed the match and then he missed another three darts at double 10 later on. But I think I played well and just happy with the win," said Van Veen.
"Two legs he left 41 after nine but then a couple of legs later he was still in the 200's after nine. I think I played a steady game and James didn't play what he did yesterday."
But also it was some measure of revenge for Van Veen who lost to Wade in the semi-finals of the European Championship from a winning position. He spoke about how tough it is to beat him.
"He's very difficult to beat. When I was waiting for the walk-on, you say European Championship semi-final. I lost to him in the semi-finals. So he's always tough to play. He just sucks out the energy of you. He's lethal on the doubles normally."
