Thursday night Michael van Gerwen will make an attempt to take control of the Premier League Darts night in Ahoy Rotterdam. Last year 'Mighty Mike' was close, but lost 6-5 to Joe Cullen in the final.
The latter will not be there this year. The biggest danger for Van Gerwen comes from Wales. Rival Gerwyn Price is in top form and has already won four weekly titles usurping MVG's early dominance.
In addition to the four weekly titles, Price also already grabbed two Players Championship titles. Still, Van Gerwen is not entirely impressed with 'The Iceman's' performance.
''It's all with him at the moment. Now he wins against me again for a while," RTL News noted from Van Gerwen's mouth during the press day in Ahoy Rotterdam.
''Despite being in so good form, he still has so much trouble with me, which is enjoyable. No matter how good he is, he is never so dominant that he eats me from start to finish,'' the Dutchman stated.
As much as Van Gerwen likes to triumph in front of his own crowd, the most important night is not until May 25. Then are the playoffs at the O2 Arena in London. ''The most important thing is that you do it on the final day, there you have to show some balls. I can't miss those playoffs anymore,'' Van Gerwen said.
