Michael van Gerwen surged from 2-2 to deny Jeffrey de Graaf and set up a Quarter-Final tie with Callan Rydz at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship on New Years Day and it is very much a confident Green Machine.
He also had some words about Peter Wright calling Callan Rydz the favourite for the tournament branding his comments as nonsense and that no-one takes him serious in scathing criticism from the three-time World Champion.

"I was able to find an extra gear when I had to and that was really important. If you purely look to the average and the way I played, there's a lot possible and I would keep playing time after time but there's still a lot of work to do this tournament," said Van Gerwen.
"I think I was in control most of the game otherwise you can't produce sets like the fifth set you know what I mean. I was able to produce something extra when I had to and that's the key thing."
But he is not looking past Callan Rydz in the next round despite a good display. "Don't underestimate Callan Rydz. He has the highest tournament average so far so you can't underestimate him but that's something to worry about in two days time. I feel good, I feel comfortable and I think from this position anything is possible."
He is not going as far as Wright has though in calling him favourite as he produced a scathing verdict to his comments. "Every year at the World's, he talks so much nonsense. He's always allowed to talk crap. No-one takes him serious on the tour as well because he's not allowed an opinion at home as well."
But when asked about going up a gear, he said that he is satisfied with his level and while there is more in the tank, he managed to still average over 100. "When you hit a 102 average, if that's not a good level you have to look in the mirror. I think 102 over a format like this takes some doing. (Looks down at the floor) There is more to come."
Asked about his 2024, he sarcastically responded before saying about what drives him. "Four titles takes some doing eh," he said sarcastically. "I love what I do, darts is my living, darts is my passion. That is after my family the most important thing in my lie, I think there's a lot more in the tank."
