Luke Littler didn't have it all own way against Ryan Joyce on Monday night at the Alexandra Palace. But, showing his fighting qualities as well as his brilliance, Littler eventually dispatched his relentless opponent 4-3, to set up a meeting with Nathan Aspinall in the quarter-finals of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship.

“It was a very tough game. We both played very well,” admitted Littler honestly in his post-match press conference, happy to give Joyce plenty of well-deserved praise. “Ryan said he had no power-scoring, but he was right behind me in every leg I won! Ryan won’t be happy with the result, but I think he should be happy with the way he played."

As mentioned, stalemate Aspinall now awaits for Littler, and with no Luke Humphries around anymore, the tournament could be starting to open up for the 17-year-old sensation. “It possibly clears my path but it is still Nathan Aspinall in the way in the quarter-finals,” Littler said of Humphries' shock exit.

“There would have been expectation no matter what, even if Luke had got through," he adds. “I got through and all eyes would still be on me, but Nathan stands in the way. It’s going to be the best man on the night that is the winner. I am expecting him to play very well, we have played each other many times, we know how each other can play, but it’s the quarter-finals of the World Championship so may the best man win on the day.”

Not many expected reigning champion Humphries to be knocked out before the quarter-finals, but thanks to a resurgent Peter Wright rolling the back the years on Sunday night, the world number one has indeed departed. Despite the excitement of the match, it seems it wasn't enough to keep Littler enthralled.

“I fell asleep in the whole of the evening session,” he laughs in explanation. “I went to sleep from about 7pm until 2am and I checked my phone and saw the result and I was like, ‘really?!’. I missed the whole game.”
