Cameron Menzies returns to the big stage at the UK Open in Minehead on Friday. The Scottish darter, known for his emotional performances, is getting plenty of support from his partner and fellow dart star Fallon Sherrock. According to her, he has what it takes to win a major title, provided he believes in himself more.

Menzies caused a stir at the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace two months ago. At the end of his match against Leonard Gates, he burst into tears. Afterwards, it turned out that his emotions came not only from the disappointment of the loss, but also from worries about his father Ricky, who had undergone triple heart bypass surgery shortly before.

Sherrock is convinced, however, that her partner has the qualities to break through at the highest level.

“He did well at the Worlds. He has definitely got the confidence. His A game is absolutely phenomenal. I think he just needs to believe in himself. I am doing the best I can.

“His dad is a lot better now. He’s home now. He’s basically getting back to normal now. It was a bit of a scare at the time. He’s getting there. He’s a lot better.”

According to Sherrock, his emotions on stage are actually a sign of his passion for the sport. "He wants it so much that is where you see all the emotions. When he’s confident and all that, and he is flying, that is when you will see all the results.

Menzies is known as a darter who does not hide his feelings. Sherrock thinks this is precisely one of his strengths. “He wears his heart on his sleeve – but I think that is what everyone likes. Because it’s a characteristic.”

Sherrock, who was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) last year for her achievements in darts, thinks Luke Littler will be the next to receive such an award. “Littler is definitely going to get one because he has helped change it dramatically. I do think that when someone changes something in the sport so much they should get something.”

Where Sherrock has her award? “I don’t even know where it is! I’m joking. It’s on the side. I think it is only me and Trina (Gulliver) for the women.”

Sherrock believes every world champion in the sport of darts deserves such recognition. “I definitely think so as well. I got it because I helped change it in women’s sport."
