Gerwyn Price has admitted he is “not in a great place” health wise after another frustrating night in the
Premier League Darts, with the Welshman opening up on his struggles as the race for the O2 begins to tighten around him.
Price suffered a quarter-final exit on
Night 14 in Leeds, losing 6-2 to Jonny Clayton despite averaging almost 98. The defeat, combined with another strong night from Luke Humphries, saw the pressure increase in the battle for the remaining play-off places behind already-qualified pair Luke Littler and Clayton.
Speaking before the clash with Clayton in Leeds, Price hinted that issues away from the stage have been affecting him in recent weeks. “Health wise I’m not in a great place at the moment but I’m battling on,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports.
That quote took on even greater significance later in the evening when
Price posted a candid message to Instagram following his defeat.
“Need a lot of luck to go my way”
“Frustrating times atm,” Price wrote. “Time to rely on Lady Luck and see what happens over the next two weeks, hopefully make the playoffs but need a lot of luck to go my way, hopefully see you at the O2.”
He also added: “No good playing once a week and hopefully I get the results I want in 3 weeks time,” alongside a hospital emoji.
While Price did not elaborate further, the combination of the social media post and his earlier Sky Sports comments painted the clearest picture yet that he has been dealing with issues behind the scenes during the latter stages of the Premier League campaign.

Momentum shifting at the wrong time
The timing is particularly significant given how the Premier League table is evolving. Price remains third on 21 points, but Humphries’ run to another final in Leeds has cut the gap to just two points with only two league nights remaining before Finals Night at the O2 Arena.
A few weeks ago, Price looked comfortably on course for qualification. Since then, however, momentum has shifted. Littler has surged clear at the top with six nightly wins, Clayton has officially secured qualification, and Humphries is beginning to build form at exactly the right moment.
Price himself acknowledged the bigger picture in his Instagram post, despite the frustration. “This year has been amazing in the Premier League and it’s been a great start to the season,” he wrote. “The crowd has got me through a lot of games but sometimes things happen you can’t control.”
For now, Price remains in a qualifying position. But heading into the final fortnight of the league phase, the fight to reach the O2 suddenly looks far less comfortable than it once did.
