"He's probably what darts needed" - Gerwyn Price welcomes emergence of Luke Littler within darts' elite

Luke Littler has emerged as one of the best players in the world in recent months. And despite losing to the teenage sensation in back-to-back World Series of Darts semi-finals, Gerwyn Price is happy to see that happen.

Price realises that competition has been added at the top, but he says he has no problem. "I think it's brilliant. Don't get me wrong it is added pressure when you're playing him, you know he's going to play well every time," Price said of Littler to Sky Sports. "I think he's brilliant for darts, he's down to earth and at this moment in time he's probably what darts needed."

As mentioned, Price has twice faced Littler on the World Series of Darts this year already, losing out in the semi-final of both the Bahrain Darts Masters and the Dutch Darts Masters. "It's a kick up the backside," Price admits. "Gets more people interested in darts and I think he's just brilliant."

It's not just the darting ability of Littler that impresses Price though, the now 17-year-old's whole demeanour is welcomed by the Welshman. "I just love the way he is around the practice room. He doesn't really engage with players, he keeps himself to himself and just gets up there and plays darts," Price says. "But yeah, I will beat him soon."
