"I said to Jo, 'I don't think I'm in'" - Peter Wright admits surprise at Premier League Darts inclusion

It's fair to say, Peter Wright's form of late hasn't been the best, highlighted by his early exit at the Alexandra Palace.

"I think I'd done too much practice instead of relaxing an enjoying it but, I've learned my lesson from it and I'm looking forward to next year," an optimistic 'Snakebite' tells Online Darts. "The past few years I didn't want to play darts. This year, I do."

Following his Ally Pally exit, Wright was inspired by the performances of newly-crowned world champion Luke Humphries and teenage sensation, Luke Littler. "It shows what you can do if you practice properly, and take the right steps," Wright says of Humphries.

"Apparently Luke Littler doesn't practice," Wright laughs. "In the back room he doesn't, he just sits down and does nothing. So I guess he's done all his practice before he gets here? But yeah, what a talent. It's great for the sport and I can't wait to bring him bring him down to earth."

"On my local news they're bringing up all these kids are playing in youth academy's because of Luke Littler," Wright continues. "Instead of looking at me and thinking you've got to be 50 years old to gocand win a World Championships, no you haven't. He was so close to winning his first World Championship at the age of 16 you know."

Despite his own alarming slide in recent months, Wright was still named in the Premier League Darts lineup for 2024 alongside Littler and Humphries. "I said to Jo, 'I don't think I'm in,'" he admits. "Luke Littler getting to the World final as well, I thought they've got to pick him. So I'm glad he's in as well, it's going to put bums on seats."
