Damon Heta is through to the Quarter-Finals of the
UK Open after an incredible day which saw 'The Heat' defeat Michael van Gerwen and Jonny Clayton, two of the biggest names in the tournament.
"When you've got to win one of these things, you have to beat all of them so it is what is. It wouldn't surprise me if I draw Gezzy Price or whoever is still in. Just keep beating those fellas and I know I'm only going to go up," said Heta to Online Darts.
A game full of breaks at least at the start against Clayton, Heta knew he had to take the chances.
"Just hold and if you get the chance to break, take every chance that's given to you as Jonny doesn't give you too many and I know what quality player he is. I'm really stoked to have a day like this."
Upturn in form
On the ProTour, Heta has been incredible at times this year and for the Aussie ace, he believes he has turned a real corner.
"I wouldn't say astronomical, I've got a really steady game. I've been known to have a James Wade feel about me being just steady, I've turned a big corner, I'm not trying to hard. I've really worked on it and I feel like I'm playing the board now."
Shane Warne
After Aussie cricket icon, Shane Warne passed away, Heta and Simon Whitlock both wore black armbands in tribute and he discussed his emotions behind that.
"I thought is this just clickbait, it's unreal and to see that happen, such an icon. I don't think you'll ever get another Warnie. He's a true icon to Australia and it's a sad day for Australian cricket."
Speaking of Australia, with borders opening over in his homeland, Heta is trying to figure out when to go home but it is on his agenda.
"The World Series I'm hoping I'm going to be in it. I'm feeling I'm going to miss something like Euro's or ProTour, it's worth it to sacrifice seeing my family and friends. I really want two weeks at home at minimum, it'll be a real boost."
