Players Championship of the year was a triumph for Gian van Veen. The 22-year-old Dutchman defeated
Luke Humphries 8-3 in the final in Leicester. However, the highest average of the day was for an Englishman.
Ross Smith was too strong at the last 32, 6-2, for Joe Cullen, the winner of the fifth Players Championship. Smith averaged 108.85 in that match, no one did better yesterday. Smith eventually stranded in the semifinals after a 7-4 defeat to Humphries.
The second highest average came in the name of the aforementioned Humphries. 'Cool Hand Luke' beat Andy Boulton 6-3 in the opening round, posting an average of 108.71.
Completing the top three is
Luke Littler. 'The Nuke' won 6-5 over Alan Soutar in his first match, averaging 107.98. Littler lost a round later 6-5 to Dom Taylor.
The first Dutchman in this list can be found in fourteenth place. Dirk van Duijvenbode lost 6-4 to Sebastian Bialecki in the last 32. Aubergenius' did achieve a higher average in that match (104.15) than his Polish opponent (102.67).
