The first semi-final is confirmed at the Dutch Darts Masters with Dirk van Duijvenbode set to face James Wade later this evening at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam.
In a heavy Dutch contingent, Van Duijvenbode took out his compatriot Martijn Kleermaker in the opening game with an 89 average, two 180's and 42.9% on the doubles.
Van Duijvenbode held throw to begin the tie going double 20 and double 10 to seal it. Kleermaker produced an incredible 180 when it looked to bounce out the board but stuck like a magnet to the other two and he held from there.
A 57 checkout saw it go with throw again as Van Duijvenbode made it 2-1. A 180 left Van Duijvenbode with a break chance but he missed the bull and Kleermaker returned to make it 2-2.
It was another maximum but another missed bull albeit he returned to make it 3-2. A 115 pressured Kleermaker to hold and he missed 112 to do so. Van Duijvenbode as a result returned for a 77 checkout to make it 4-2.
A 180, 140 and 90 saw Kleermaker hit back as he looked to take the break and go 4-3 down which he did so with a 91 checkout.
Van Duijvenbode missed a 170 but again he sealed another break with Kleermaker failing to capitalise on a guide on 135 for the bull and it was 5-3. He was throwing for the match but both missed the big number but especially ‘The Titan’ on 112 and he handed Kleermaker another break as he looked to send it to a decider.
But finally Van Duijvenbode got over the line hitting double six after Kleermaker was handed an opportunity at 106 which he nearly took to send it all the way.
While Wade was in Machine like mood as he produced a 6-4 win averaging just under 99 hitting high checkouts of 122 and 120 en route to seeing off Maik Kuivenhoven.
He will aim to dent further Dutch darting hopes as one of two remaining PDC invitees alongside Dimitri van den Bergh.
Kuivenhoven started well with an 81 checkout for an 11-darter with Wade back on 298 but Wade hit back on the bull with a 122 checkout. He established breathing room on double 10 to make it 3-1 but Kuivenhoven did keep himself in touch with a 60 checkout at 3-2 down.
But again Wade kept opening the gap going 4-2 and 5-3 up as he edged closer. Kuivenhoven aimed to keep his campaign alive with another superb leg albeit on his own throw hitting double eight to make it 5-4.
Wade’s surge to the finish line though looked to halt with no big trebles but Kuivenhoven couldn’t rise to the challenge and ‘The Machine’ sealed it with a 120 checkout.
