With the 2024
Premier League Darts getting underway in Cardiff tonight, arguably no selection has caused more debate this year than that of
Peter Wright.
Although undoubtedly one of the most successful players of the modern era, Wright's form of late has caused some to question whether he deserves a spot in the 2024 edition. Nevertheless, 'Snakebite' himself is excited to get going. "More than I have been in the past to be honest," he explains to the PDC. "The way I'm taking it this year, is as if it's my first year in it so I'm excited."
Vastly experienced, this will be Wright's 11th consecutive Premier League campaign. "I think that will help me out in the long run," the Scot says. "I've changed a lot of things mentally, so hopefully that will pay off and hopefully, sticking with one set of darts will be good as well!"
"My standards should be more. I should be having better runs in the Worlds or in the Matchplay and the UK Open, stuff like that," Wright admits, despite winning another major title, the European Championship, late last year. "Hopefully I can make the playoffs then go on and see what that night brings."
"It's one of the strongest lineups and I think it's going to be very difficult for all the players but obviously, for the newbies, let's see how they can deal with it," Wright previews. "They're already talking about taking some time off after two tournaments and that's without the Premier League starting so we'll see."
