The 2024 Premier League Darts campaign gets underway tonight in Cardiff. For Nathan Aspinall, it will be his fourth full campaign.
"I can't wait. It's going to be a fantastic Premier League season," Aspinall previews in conversation with the PDC. "Eight players, no one knows who's going to win. There's going to be ups, there's going to be downs but it's one I'm really looking forward to going in."
After appearing as a contender in 2019, Aspinall has had much joy in his three full campaigns. A losing finalist in 2020, reaching the semi-finals in 2021 and narrowly missing out on the top-4 last year. "I think, when I'm playing regular, that's when I'm at my best," 'The Asp' explains. "I perform well in the Premier League because it's literally every single week. I haven't got time to dwell on a defeat."
Comparing the lineup of this year's edition, Aspinall sees a marked improvement in the level from previous years. "If you look at it compared to my first two years, it's night and day in my opinion. Last year's was good but this year's is even better. It's going to be a fantastic tournament and like I said, I haven't got a clue who's going to win it."
On opening night, Aspinall has the tough task of facing Gerwyn Price in Cardiff. "I've moaned about it for three weeks," he jokes. "These moments and occasions are what I live for! Going into the lion's den, they're all going to be against me but I know what to expect and I'm going to enjoy the moment."
