"Hopefully will go one better next time" - Ross Smith optimistic for future after run to final of European Darts Grand Prix

For the first time in his career, Ross Smith reached a European Tour final on Sunday night. Eventually though, 'Smudger' went down 8-6 against Gary Anderson in the final of the European Darts Grand Prix.

Smith had earlier in the tournament defeated Damon Heta 6-5 in the quarterfinals and defeated Michael van Gerwen 7-6 in the semifinals among others. In the final against Anderson, however, he struggled to reach his best level.

"I can't complain, I'm gutted but I'll be back on the practice board and keep working hard," the former European Championship winner reflected post-match. "Congratulations to Gary, everyone knows how good he is; he's just Gary Anderson!"

Despite the relatively disappointing ending to the weekend, Smith leaves Sindelfingen full of positivity given his performances. "I'll take getting to the final all day long and hopefully will go one better next time," Smith concludes.
