Luke Humphries eased past Rowby-John Rodriguez and will return after Christmas for the third round of the 2021/22 PDC
World Darts Championship.
Humphries spoke afterwards and admitted demons did return from last year where he spurned a winning position.
"I was 2-0 up and I was trying so hard just to finish the game because you know what happened last year and thinking don't let it happen again. I gave the initiative to Rowby and thought no don't do this and a couple of misses there let me off. His doubles really let him down today but yeah I felt like I was in control," said Humphries post match.
He also discussed adapting to changes this year including changing darts.
"It can be a really lonely stage when things ain't going well. It's a totally different scenario usually I'm qualified, now I'm a seed. There's much more pressure on my shoulders but I felt comfortable, I've changed my darts and I think these are the darts that can take me to the next level."
