At the past World Cup of Darts, it appeared that there was some serious tension between Kim Huybrechts and Dimitri Van den Bergh. Huybrechts now looks back on that incident and also looks ahead.
During their first group match at the World Cup of Darts, both Belgians did not give each other a glance. Afterwards, it was decided to return to normalcy against each other for the rest of the tournament. "I've read a lot of nonsense about that incident, my fingers itch sometimes to respond to it," Huybrechts told 433 Darts.
"One thing is certain, our wives have nothing to do with the quarrel between Dimitri and me. In fact, my wife immediately said she wants to keep a low profile."
Despite the argument between Huybrechts and Van den Bergh, Belgium still made it to the semifinals at the World Cup of Darts. "An hour and a half before our opening match against Finland, I asked Dimitri to act normal on stage, he refused at the time, however. That definitely had an impact on me, after all, I'm an emotional person."
"Afterwards, we still decided to act normal and encourage each other. We ended up playing a fantastic tournament. Had we won against Wales I even think we would have won the final against Scotland as well."
Huybrechts has not spoken to Van den Bergh since the World Cup of Darts. "I'm not saying it can never be resolved, but the folds certainly haven't been ironed out yet. This week I'll probably see him at the Players Championships, but I'm focusing on my own matches there."
Colleagues
During the World Cup of Darts, colleagues Vincent van der Voort and Raymond van Barneveld also gave their opinions on Viaplay about the feud between Huybrechts and Van den Bergh. "You sit there to give your opinion, I do that myself regularly on Belgian television and so I certainly don't have a problem with that. But it has to be right what they say. For example, Raymond proclaimed that our women are involved and that is pertinently untrue."
"Many people also think that my statements on Belgian television are at the root of the quarrel between Dimitri and me, but that is not true. I always give my opinion honestly and that's how it should be as an analyst. What it is then remains private."
