Jeffrey de Graaf failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the PDC World Darts Championship. The Dutch Swede went down 4-2 in the last 16 against Michael van Gerwen.
Afterwards, De Graaf oscillated between pride and disappointment. "Michael threw really well and I had trouble keeping up with him," he said. "I definitely got some chances, but I didn't take them."
"Especially at 2-2 in sets I thought I had a chance to win the match, but afterwards he put on an extra gear and I couldn't follow. If Michael maintains this form, he can definitely become world champion."
Breakthrough
De Graaf, a native of the Netherlands, recently played for Sweden. "Maybe this performance will make darts break through in Sweden for good, even if we all do it together. Someone like Andreas Harrysson is also doing very well lately. Also the Modus Super Series is becoming more and more popular in Sweden."
"I think in the future we are going to see a lot more good darters from Sweden on the big stages," De Graaf continued. "Personally, I'm mostly looking forward now to getting back to my pregnant wife. I can look back on a beautiful World Championship."
