Nathan Aspinall very easily qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship on Monday. 'The Asp' defeated a below-par Ricardo Pietreczko 4-0 in the last 16 and now gets to take on Luke Littler.

Aspinall lost only two legs against Pietreczko, who had an average below 80. Aspinall himself had an average of 94.28. It was therefore a satisfied Englishman who told his story at the press conference afterwards. “That is probably the loudest and the best crowd I have ever played darts in, that was unbelievable,” claimed the two-time televised title winner. “I enjoyed every single moment of that game; it’s the first game that I’ve played that I’ve enjoyed in a long, long time, and hopefully my next game’s the same. I'm over the moon to make the quarter finals. Luke is going to be favourite, but that spurs me on. I love being an underdog."

Just because he's into the last eight, doesn't mean Aspinall is all smiles though with the former World Matchplay champion even threatening to go a Joe Cullen in his post-match press conference, calling out what he perceived to be a lack of respect from the media.

"You underestimate me, all of you. I never get any respect," Aspinall explains with a wry smile. "I’m not going to go all Joe Cullen here, but I always get written-off, no one ever talks about me and I’m a two-time major champion and a fantastic dart player. I’ve come through so much, come back fighting and keep proving people wrong time and time again. It’s up to me to go up on that stage and prove you lot wrong who write me off."

It seems though, that Aspinall is over worrying about the perceived disrespect and determined to let his darts do the talking. "I’ll do my thing, I’m past it now, it’s been years and years and years of worrying what other people think about me. I don’t care anymore," he says. "I’m going to go up there, play my darts. Win, lose, whatever, I’m just going to enjoy myself. I’ve got a fantastic life. My family want for nowt, I’m making money playing darts, I’m just going to go up there and enjoy myself."
