On Monday night, we saw the
Gerwyn Price of years gone by at the
PDC World Darts Championship. Not directly in terms of form, but certainly in terms of trademark roars in celebration. In his opening match of the tournament, the former world champion won relatively comfortably 3-0 in sets over
Keane Barry, meaning he had a lot of reasons to roar.
While some people enjoyed Price's return to his more vocal ways,
Raymond van Barneveld watched it in disbelief. The 57-year-old Dutch darting icon sat as an analyst on Viaplay on Monday. "I think it's a bit of nonsense to go completely nuts 3 times in one leg" Van Barneveld said. "I also think it's a bit 'not done' and heavily exaggerated. He throws out double one in 27 arrows and then you go out of your mind like that."
Dirk van Duijvenbode, who was also a guest on the broadcast, then commented on his compatriot's statements. "This is nice huh. Just now he says: 'some people find it heavily exaggerated' and one minute later: I find it heavily exaggerated," Van Duijvenbode laughed.
Also touched upon was the topic of Barry's many missed doubles. "That's not possible," Van Duijvenbode thought. "Who just wanted to win a set or as many legs as possible. You just saw that. He stood there like a lost sheep," concluded 'Aubergenius'.
