Luke Littler will find out his opponent shortly at the PDC World Darts Championship as Fallon Sherrock faces Ryan Meikle. But the prodigious talent has had both an agonising loss and also a win in the last hour at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Littler claimed the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year Award after reaching the final of the biggest event in the sport at the age of 16, winning 10 senior trophies this year and becoming a global phenomenom.

"It goes to show how well I've done this year but knowing for myself that I've changed the sport of darts with all the other professionals but I have played a big part in it," said Littler on BBC.

"I know the amount of academies that have been brought up, how big the sport has got. Tickets for Ally Pally selling out within hours and the Premier League selling out quick as well. It goes to show how much I've changed it."

But he finished as Phil Taylor did in 2010 in second place. 'The Power' advised him not to attend the awards ceremony in Manchester saying that he only did so as he'd won 15 World titles and that he would be all focused on Ally Pally if he was Littler.

He ended up losing out in the public vote to British athletics queen Keely Hodgkinson. The 22-year-old who won gold in the summer at the Paris Olympics was favourite throughout when the nominees got announced after finally achieving gold in the 800m this summer.

But for Littler, it is another tick in the box to come away with another accolade. A sport that is not often celebrated by the yearly awards ceremony, Littler as he said has shown why he has changed the sport of darts. He now will head to focus on his Ally Pally title tilt with Sherrock or Meikle awaiting on Saturday night.
