Rob Cross has won the first Players Championship of the 2025 season. In the final, 'Voltage' was too strong for Joe Cullen, 8-3. For Cross it is already the second title this year, after he was also the best at the Dutch Darts Masters, a tournament of the World Series of Darts, last month.

Cross was obviously beaming afterwards. “It’s nice to win on the Pro Tour again,” reflected the former world champion afterwards, having last tasted success in a Players Championship back in 2023. “I was a bit lazy last year, and I thought to myself: ‘Don’t put yourself in that position again,’ because it’s heart-wrenching."

“I’ve been hit and miss in the last few months, but I’m enjoying myself at the minute, and when I do find it, I can play some special darts," Cross adds. “I had a couple of wisdom teeth out at the weekend, so I don’t feel at my best right now, but I can’t use that as an excuse! I feel like I’m getting better, and if I can deliver that when I’m not 100%, that’s typical Bobby isn’t it!”

With this win, Cross was also able to give a nice birthday present. “I told Jimmy Walker I would win just because it’s his birthday today. I said, yeah, we’ll have a go today. I didn’t even know it was his birthday for the first three or four hours here, good friend that, innit!" Cross laughs. "But you’ve got to keep the boss happy! Look I’m enjoying myself and, when I’m on it, I love it. I love the game. When I’m not, I’m my own worst enemy."

This afternoon in Wigan, Cross will attempt to go back to back to open 2025's Pro Tour. Cross is also back in action two days later in Premier League Darts, on the second day of play in Glasgow he will take on Luke Littler in the quarter-finals.
