Luke Humphries has very convincingly qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2025 PDC Winmau World Masters. 'Cool Hand' Luke beat Josh Rock 4-0 in the round of 16 and will now face Damon Heta in the last 8.

The 29-year-old Englishman is in his first ranking major since a somewhat disappointing PDC World Darts Championship, where he lost to Peter Wright in the fourth round. Humphries, however, wants to get back to winning ways at this major and didn't let Rock stand a chance. Humphries was also keen to take a moment afterwards to respond to the criticism that arose on social media after some players treated each other with too much respect at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship. For example, 'fistbumps' were often handed out on stage in appreciation of a good throw or finish.

Although the former world champion heartily disagrees with any such criticism, he admits that for he himself, it's easy to seperate friendships with winning a matcb. "Honestly, Ryan [Searle] and Stephen [Bunting] are two of my best friends away from the stage, but if I’m on the stage I couldn’t care less. I want to beat them," Humphries told SportsBoom. "I don’t feel the difference, it’s dog eat dog on that stage. I want to be the best, and I want to beat the best. I want to be world number one, and world champion again. When you’re on that stage, there is no friends. That’s the difference.”

Humphries then reflected on his childhood and how childhood rivalries shaped his character. He was asked if losing to friends often hurts more than losing to others. "Subconsciously you always want to get one over your mates. I’ve never really thought about it too much, but maybe subconsciously you could be right,” Hunphries assesses.

Humphries will be back in action Sunday afternoon at the Winmau World Masters. He will then take on Damon Heta, who won 4-3 over Gerwyn Price in the previous round after a real thriller.
