Peter Wright is regularly taken to task by his colleagues on the darts circuit. Especially his relationship with wife Joanne, with whom he has been together for many years, is often the subject of jokes. Two-time world champion Wright is known for having little say at home, something
Vincent van der Voort is only too happy to make fun of.
Wright had criticized his rival
Michael van Gerwen after his fourth-round win against reigning world champion Luke Humphries. That remark was not without consequences. Van Gerwen wittily retorted and put the Scot to shame. During
the podcast Darts Draait Door Van der Voort decided to elaborate. "I don't think Mrs. Wright is too happy with those statements from Michael. And neither is Peter himself. But it does often come across that way in their relationship that he has nothing to say at home. I do know that he still gets pocket money. Well, if that's the case, you're not the boss at home. I can tell you that. So I guess it's true,'' Van der Voort says.
The Dutchman has met Wright's wife many times over the years. It is rare for Wright to attend a tournament without his wife, as Joanne is responsible for 'Snakebite's' colorful hair.
"But she's not the easiest," Van der Voort continued. "I did an exhibition with him and then you have to sit on a stage to hand out autographs to everyone. She then just stood behind him to keep an eye out. She's not the easiest, but maybe he just needs that too. Maybe he has a hard time with money and that's why he gets pocket money," The Dutch Destroyer stated.
This evening, Wright's quest for a 3rd world title continues as he faces Stephen Bunting in the quarter-finals of the 2025
PDC World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace.
