"If you have ambitions to get the most out of your career I don't understand going there" - Van der Voort critical of Plaisier turning down Pro Tour invites for WDF

Wesley Plaisier was the strongest at Players Championship 28 yesterday. In recent weeks, however, he has passed up some invitations to Players Championship tournaments on the PDC Pro Tour, in order to instead play on the WDF circuit.
Plaisier was active at the WDF Europe Cup two weeks ago and successfully defended his title at the WDF World Masters last week. Vincent van der Voort was asked in the podcast Darts Draait Door whether that was a stupid choice. "Yes and no," Van der Voort assessed. "If you have ambitions to go pro and get the most out of your career, I don't understand going there. Then you just like to play darts and go there with the Dutch team."
Van der Voort finds it especially bizarre that darters like Plaisier and Jimmy van Schie apparently have no clear plan behind them. "They just throw wherever there is something on the weekend. Such a Plaisier should now just be busy with how he can make it as far as possible at the PDC. You can earn good money at the PDC, at the WDF you have to bring money. That's just charity work."

"The WDF - and it's very harsh to say - is just nothing anymore," Van der Voort continued. "It doesn't represent anything anymore. They've missed the boat. They will soon have a World Championship with all players who are not even the best amateurs in the world. It's just nothing at all at the moment, something has to change drastically."
"And then you (Plaisier, ed.) go there to try to win the Europe Cup, when you have three days to get better against the best players in the world. I'd never get into it myself, but he's probably so much of a fan that he'll enjoy going to that 'bitterball tournament'."
