And once again
Wesley Plaisier stood with the cup in his hands at the WDF
World Masters. Plaisier managed to prolong his title at the World Masters in the Hungarian capital Budapest, having also won the previous edition in 2022.
Plaisier had advanced through the pool phase last Wednesday by defeating William McKendry (4-3), Ian Hiscock (4-1) and Wilfred Covey (4-0). He continued his tournament on Thursday with wins over Dennie Olde Kalter (5-2) and Shaun McDonald, before surviving a total of 11 matchdarts against Gyorgy Jehirszki (5-4), Barry Copeland (5-4) and Jimmy van Schie (5-4).
On the final day of the World Masters, Plaisier won 6-3 over Corne Groeneveld in the semifinals and then showed he was too strong for Kai Gotthardt 7-3 in the final.
Plaisier is only the ninth player to have won the World Masters at least twice. The absolute record holder is Eric Bristow, who managed to win the event five times in the period 1977 through 1984.
Bob Anderson and Martin Adams both stand at three final wins. John Lowe, Dave Whitcombe, Raymond van Barneveld, Stephen Bunting and Glen Durrant are the other players who have won the World Masters twice.
