After a display of sheer darting dominance, Mighty
Michael van Gerwen breezed past
Dimitri Van den Bergh to book his spot in the final of the
PDC World Darts Championship for the sixth time.
In his post-match press conference however, the usually jovial van Gerwen lashed out at a reporter for their question regarding an incident that happened in the third set of the semi-final.
With van Gerwen leading 2-0 in sets, a visibly frustrated Van den Bergh appeared to question whether MVG had been encroaching on the exclusion zone as he was about to throw. An equally frustrated van Gerwen then seemingly urged his opponent to get on with it before winning the leg with a 170 finish and staring Van den Bergh down. You can see the incident

According to van Gerwen, this was actually not the case. When a reporter in his post-match press conference questioned whether Dimitri had accused him of encroaching, the three-time former World Champion was having none of it. "That's not true," the Dutchman replied spikily. "He said I was stamping, you've been listening to the commentary too much. If you want to ask something, get your facts right," before looking out to the rest of the reporters in attendance and asking "anyone want to ask a sensible question?"
On the board, van Gerwen was untouchable. In a 6-0 drubbing, the Dutchman roared into the World Championship Final with 9 maximums and an average of over 108. Looking ahead to that final, the question is will it be a repeat van Gerwen success or will Smith get his revenge?
"Me and Michael know each other really well and I think for darts it will be a stunning final tomorrow," van Gerwen says. "Michael deserves to be here the way he's been playing the last few months. It's going to be a great final whatever happens tomorrow night."
