Mark Webster has provided an update on his health after being temporarily absent from various darts broadcasts as an analyst in recent weeks. The 42-year-old Welshman, who became a mainstay on TV after his playing career, revealed that he is currently undergoing treatment for a medical condition, the details of which have not been made public.
Webster has in recent years become a familiar face on Sky Sports broadcasts, where he regularly delivers analysis and commentary during major tournaments such as the World Darts Championship and the Premier League Darts. He was also recently announced as part of ITV’s revamped darts team, which covers several major PDC events throughout the year.

Absence due to medical issue

In recent weeks, however, Webster has been off screen. He has now provided his own explanation of the situation. Speaking on the Love The Darts podcast, he addressed his health and recovery process.
“Something just cropped up,” Webster explained. “I’m having a bit of treatment and slowly it seems to be working. So hopefully in another month it’ll be reassessed and I’m hoping to get back, because I’ve missed far too much already and I want to get back.”
The former world champion admitted it has been difficult watching events unfold without being part of the broadcasts.
“As much as I like watching the darts, it’s not the same as being involved,” he said. “So I’m quite eager to get back.”

Connection to the darts world

Despite his absence from television coverage, Webster says he still appreciates opportunities to stay involved with the sport.
“At least I get to chat to you guys,” he said. “So it’s nice to sort of still be involved, isn’t it?”
Webster also revealed that the support from fans has meant a great deal while he has been away from the screen.

Former BDO World Championship winner

Webster enjoyed an impressive playing career. His greatest success came in 2008, when he won the BDO World Championship. In the final, he defeated Simon Whitlock 7–5 to be crowned world champion.
A year later, he made the switch to the PDC. Webster made an immediate impact there as well. On his debut at the PDC World Championship, he reached the semi-finals, which earned him a place in the 2011 Premier League Darts.
At the World Darts Championship, Webster also recorded one of the standout results of his career. In the quarter-finals, he eliminated darts legend Phil Taylor 5–2. He eventually fell in the semi-finals after a 6–4 defeat to eventual champion Adrian Lewis.
Beyond his World Championship exploits, Webster also reached the semi-finals of the UK Open in 2011 and the World Grand Prix in 2015. He also represented Wales twice in the semi-finals of the World Cup of Darts alongside Richie Burnett.
After retiring, Webster became one of the most respected analysts in darts. With his calm delivery, tactical insight and experience as a top player, he quickly secured a permanent place on television.
For now, however, the focus is on his recovery. If the next medical evaluation is positive, Webster hopes to return to the screen in the near future — something he is clearly keen to do after already missing time on the broadcast team.
