"I'm stronger than all the others mental wise" - Van Gerwen starts World Grand Prix as favourite

On Monday, the World Grand Prix gets underway in Leicester. Michael van Gerwen starts this tournament as the defending champion after winning 5-3 over Nathan Aspinall in last year's final.

Van Gerwen, who has already won this tournament six times, will take on Josh Rock in his opening match. "It's a different tournament, different than the rest. Starts with a double, something that I like," Van Gerwen said to Boyle Sports.

"It's one where you can make a difference and after the first round as well it's a longer format, then most of the time the better player comes out on top."

Van Gerwen emphatically puts himself forward as the favourite to take the title. "I'm stronger than all the others mental wise. Of course I'm going to win!"
