THROWBACK VIDEO: Wade and Thornton make history at World Grand Prix with two nine darters in one match

From Monday, Oct. 2, the World Grand Prix 2023 will start. Ahead of this tournament, we look back at great moments from the past of this unique tournament.

In 2014, James Wade and Robert Thornton made history by both throwing one nine-darter in their match at the World Grand Prix. 'The Machine' threw his perfect leg in the second set, 'The Thorn' followed suit in set four. It is still the only time two different players managed to throw a perfect leg in the same match.

For the Scot, the duel had an extra charge; Thornton had buried his mother earlier that day. The two-time major winner therefore dedicated the 9-darter to his late mother.
