Yesterday it was Luke Humphries and today it is Nathan Aspinall who was on the end of an ominous and imperious display from
Michael van Gerwen at the 2023
UK Open.
Van Gerwen joins Andrew Gilding in the semi-final line-up this evening as the Dutchman reaches his sixth last four in this tournament with a 99.6 average and nine 180's.
It was a good start from Aspinall with a 160 checkout to clinch the opening leg but four consecutive legs from Van Gerwen saw him begin to run away with the tie.
Every time as ever Aspinall thought he had a chance, the door was shut as Van Gerwen followed up a 119 finished followed by a 127 checkout for a 12-darter to make it 7-3.
He continued to motor towards the finish with a 12-dart break hitting an 83 checkout taking out the combination finishes clinically. Aspinall thought he had a lifeline at 8-6 down as Van Gerwen busted twice but he missed the bull for a 164 and again was punished as Van Gerwen went one away.
Aspinall missed 87 on the bull to stay in it and Van Gerwen eased over the line on double 16.
