Inspired Mensur Suljovic rolls back the years to dump out tournament favourite Michael van Gerwen at the UK Open

Former major winner Mensur Suljovic has taken one of his biggest wins in a number of years to send pre-tournament favourite, Michael van Gerwen packing from the UK Open in Minehead.

After a rough couple of years, Suljovic, who failed to even qualify for the recent World Darts Championship is currently languishing in 57th in the world rankings. 'The Gentle' looked as good as ever in Minehead though, fighting back from an early 4-1 deficit to edge van Gerwen 10-7 on the main stage.

On the outer boards, there were wins for the likes of Dave Chisnall (10-4 over Nick Kenny), Rob Cross (10-3 over Rowby-John Rodriguez), Chris Dobey (10-3 over Mickey Mansell) and Mervyn King (10-3 over Ricardo Pietreczko).

On Stage 2, there was a clash between Australia's World Cup of Darts winning duo Damon Heta and Simon Whitlock. After a tight battle, in the end it was Heta who took it 10-8.
