The final session of action at the
International Darts Open 2020 is set with the Quarter-Finals set to begin shortly in Riesa.
Starting proceedings off will be the World Number One, Michael van Gerwen who has not been at his best so far this weekend but the same occurred in Sindelfingen and he went straight to the final losing to Jose de Sousa so could he go all the way and claim his first
European Tour title of the season?
It is a title Van Gerwen hasn't claimed in the 32 he has won on the European Tour with it being a tournament he doesn't usually attend.
His next task though will be a player who knows what it takes to beat him and also take chances if he isn't playing towards his best and that is James Wade.
Wade saw off Nathan Aspinall this afternoon with a 170 checkout en route against an out of sorts Stockport ace. Can he produce a similar display tonight to make it a winless European Tour for Mighty Mike?
Then it is two players who know how to win European Tour titles in Krzysztof Ratajski and Mensur Suljovic. The former saw off the impressive Franz Roetzsch in a last leg decider averaging 102 so is in good form but as is Suljovic who defeated Jamie Hughes 6-2 to set up a potentially classy tie.
Ross Smith has had an excellent weekend and finds himself in the Last Eight. The final player left not to claim a PDC title, could he buck the trend of first time European Tour winners alongside Devon Petersen and Jose de Sousa.
From his 112 average to producing a remarkable comeback to defeating Gerwyn Price, latterly he saw off home hero Max Hopp to claim his spot in the Last Eight as well as a spot in the European Championship.
He next has Joe Cullen who pounced on a poor display on the finishing from Dave Chisnall to move through in a 6-1 win and will have his sights set on another European Tour title.
Then the final Quarter-Final sees Michael Smith take on Danny Noppert. Both taking out surprise packages in Jesus Noguera and Scott Baker. They both eased through and with the latter in particular in great form and 'Bully Boy' showing some great darts this weekend, it could be the best tie in the early part of the session.
Who takes the title in the final European Tour event of the season, action begins at 6pm GMT on PDCTV with the winner set to be crowned.
