INTERVIEW - Damon Heta confirms Q School plans: 'I don’t want to be a one-time winner'

Brisbane Darts Masters champion Heta confirmed in an exclusive dartsnews.com interview that he will compete for a PDC Tour Card at the start of the 2020 season.

The Australian powered past James Wade, Gary Anderson, Simon Whitlock and Rob Cross to seal World Series success in Brisbane. While subsequent visits to Melbourne and Hamilton weren't as successful, the 32-year-old feels he has done enough to prove his Q-School credentials.

"I will be heading to England to play in January’s Q School," Heta said.

"My performance at the Brisbane Darts Masters proved that I am heading in the right direction with my darts and showed that I have what it takes. Now I have that belief in myself."

Darts didn't seem like a viable career option to 'The Heat' until a talk with Gary Anderson turned his head. The Scot's encouragement led to Heta committing to the DPA circuit.

"Darts back then was never a career choice for me. [...] until last year when I had a chat with Gary Anderson, after that I made the decision to focus on darts", said Heta.

"I see the DPA as the pinnacle of darts in Australia. It's a stepping stone of where you need to get to."

A bid to keep up the impressive performance levels shown in Brisbane across three World Series jaunts proved to be too much for Heta. The twin pressures of work and travel proved to be a thorn in his side.

"I wished I could kept that consistency that I had in Brisbane [...] I just couldn't perform due to travelling back and forth to Perth between tournaments and work commitments while everything caught up with me," he explained.

The Perth ace feels that the floodgates have opened with the Brisbane Darts Masters title secured - Q-School is the next step on the path towards being a serial PDC winner.

"I don’t want to be a one-time winner. I’m definitely heading to the UK for Q-School," the professional roofer and plumber said.

"That was a decision I made after the World Series last year. Everything leading up to this point has been a stepping stone."
