Will the generational clash between
Luke Littler and
Phil Taylor finally happen? On Friday, Target Darts - the sponsor of both Littler and Taylor - posted a cryptic video on X.
''For the first time time. The Power against The Nuke, more soon,'" it read. The video on X showed both Littler and Taylor in a face-off, but it is unclear whether they were actually in the same room together. The accompanying text suggests that the two champions will compete against each other for the first time ever.
Whether this is actually a match or just a marketing campaign remains unclear for now. Taylor, 16-time world champion, has previously indicated he would only play against Littler under specific conditions Taylor previously revealed. "No [I don't want to play him]. Not yet, I don't want to play him to be quite honest with you! I'd play him in an exhibition, yeah. One leg of 301, I go first!"
Littler envisioned such a competition. "I’m sure that will happen soon. Sooner rather than later. To share the stage with him will be incredible. I’m sure we’ll make it happen.
"If Taylor does start practicing, then it will be tough, but if he just sits at home and then comes to an exhibition then I fancy my chances."
The young sensation has already hinted that he wants to improve Taylor's records.
"I’ve said previously, if I can win every major title in my career then I’ll be happy. I’d like to add on the world titles, and deep down, if I want to break the record of Phil Taylor, I’ve got the ability to. If I want it, I’m sure I can do it.”
Still, Littler has a long way to go to match Taylor's status. Taylor has 16 world titles, 16 World Matchplay titles, 11 World Grand Prix titles, 5 UK Opens and 5 Premier League titles to his name to name a few.
In terms of prize money, however, Littler seems to be moving faster than his legendary predecessor. Despite Taylor's 30-year career, his fortune is estimated at around £5.5 million. In contrast, Littler has already earned over £1.5 million after just over a year and seems well on his way to surpassing that amount quickly.
