Fallon Sherrock recently called out female players to put more effort and practice in to get up to the standard that has previously been set by her and others on the women's tour.
But Laura Turner sees it as a bridge in terms of the opportunities given with a solution being mooted by the prominent women's player as well as Sky Sports commentator and pundit. That being spots at the UK Open as a level playing field and the so-called FA Cup of Darts providing shocks and the multi-board area.
Sherrock said initially which was responded to on the podcast. ''That’s why I keep saying we need more opportunities to play against the men, because doing so will make our game better'', she said on Club 501. ''So many women play exceptionally well in the MODUS Super Series, which is proof of that. Gemma Hayter is an example of a woman who brought out her best game when playing against the men in the MODUS.''
"If you are playing better players, it is conducive to become a better player. But there is that other side to it that if you are getting beat day after day, week after week by players that are outstripping you in terms of form that can have a real demoralising effect," responded Turner on Love the Darts.
"We've got the Grand Slam, Ally Pally for those women to push themselves further. I would love to see more women play in more events. I think the UK Open is perfect. Multi-boards are already set up, it feels like that is a prime place to put up an independent women's tournament like a women's UK Open. Or put women in the main draws."
While Michael Bridge sees it also as a comfort issue with players like Beau Greaves openly not wanting to push themselves against the men by attending Q-School or pushing for more.
"Not to misquote her but I think Beau said she prefers just playing women. But we know she's won PDC men's tournaments. She won a Dev Tour. She's been incredible in the MODUS Super Series. It's more of a comfort thing. I know all these girls," said Bridge in response.
