Jonny Clayton has advanced to the final of the World Matchplay after a thriller. 'The Ferret' defeated Luke Humphries 17-15 in the semifinals.
Clayton had to chase for a long time. "I usually watch this final on TV with the wife and kids, thinking one day I might get there" Clayton laughs. "It was just all about digging deep. Obviously Luke let me in a few times, but yeah, it was just a dog fight. Thankfully I got back in it in that last session."
"I've got loads of respect for Luke. He's going to go on and win major titles time after time," Clayton continues, full of praise for his defeated opponent. "But tonight, it's my night."
Clayton has previously won such titles as the Premier League and the World Grand Prix but winning the Matchplay would top the lot. "It would mean everything to me. I'm going to go out there and give it everything I've got."
Finally, Clayton gives an update on his sick father who has inspired 'the Ferret' throughout this run to the final. "We always speak on face time. That voice of Dad's saying 'good luck Jonny Boy' means the world to me."
