Tom Sykes has already made a very strong impression on the Modus Super Series this year. The 32-year-old Englishman is making a bid for a PDC Tour Card early next year and is confident that he will succeed in that mission.
In fact, Sykes was recently invited to an exhibitional event alongside darting superstars such as Luke Humphries, Gerwyn Price and Fallon Sherrock. The event was organized by MDA Events. "It's nice to be invited to perform with the best people in the world and it's only going to bring my game on," a smiling Sykes says in conversation with Online Darts. "It's massive for your confidence when you're getting invited to things like this."
Because of his strong performances on the Modus Super Series, Sykes has been widely tipped as a future Tour Card holder by those in the know. "It's always nice to be talked about, but you've got to prove it on the day as well and you've got to have the confidence to play," Sykes assesses. "When I've been on the Challenge Tour, I've played well in one tournament and then I've been off on the next one. It's just about getting the consistency right for me now."
Understandably though, Sykes is eager to get himself a Tour Card at next year's Q School. "Everything I've been doing this year since Q School last year, I've been working up to Q School next year. It's going well so far so, hopefully I can carry on the form and see what happens," Sykes previews with optimism. "I think I'm ready, just need the consistency. I've heard a lot of people talking about me getting a Tour Card next year, but I don't listen to that. I just try and keep myself focused and hopefully I'll get there in the end."
