"It's going to be every week": Michael Smith believes whistling when Luke Littler plays is set to continue in Premier League Darts

Michael Smith took down Gerwyn Price 6-2 in the final of the opening week of Premier League Darts action in Cardiff as he took down a who's who of top darting names including Michael van Gerwen and Luke Littler. One such issue arose with Smith being whistled at when he was throwing amid the Littler factor and 'Bully Boy' said it was just one idiot in the crowd. But that it will likely continue into the coming weeks.

"It's going to be every week. It doesn't matter where it is. It's fine you just do it at the right time but you wouldn't expect it. I'd expect it more from the Gezzy game, but I think when I checked the 107 to go 4-1 up, it just kind of dropped silent," he said post match.

"Apart from when Gezzy made it 5-2, but even my darts that last leg, it was silent. It just went dead."

"I think it was just one person being an idiot. I just turned to him and told him to shut up.

But despite the issues, Smith sees Littler as win win and said he is glad not to be doing all the press and that if he continues to gain stardom, it leads to more money in his back pocket.

"They had the chants at the World's of he's going school in the morning. Everyone's fell in love with him from the World's, you're going to expect it (the whistling). I don't think anyone has followed someone as much as Luke, even as big as Phil Taylor. He's won 16 World's. I'm going to ride the wave because if everyone keeps following, the sponsors keep coming in and the prize money keeps going up for us lads. So he can do all the press he wants but you just get paid at the end of the day."

Albeit though, it is a return to the winners' circle for Smith and one that he is super pleased about and hopes he can kick on from.

"It does feel weird, it was April the last time I won an event. It's been a long time. I know its a Premier League night, but winning's winning. Because I'm winning, winning, winning, it makes it feel more special. It doesn't matter if I'm winning against my kids or the Premier League, it's just good to be winning again."
