Michael Smith floors Gerwyn Price and takes first weekly title of Premier League Darts 2024 in Cardiff

The first weekly title in the Premier League Darts 2024 has fallen to Michael Smith. In the lion's den of a raucous Cardiff crowd, he overcame Gerwyn Price in the final.

With both Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries and Luke Littler in his half of the draw, few in advance had given Smith a chance for the weekly title. Yet he managed to single-handedly knock out two of the favourites.

First, he beat Van Gerwen 6-5 before also beating Littler after a deciding leg. Price in turn had dealt with Nathan Aspinall (6-4) and Rob Cross (6-2).

The icing on the cake did not come for 'The Iceman', however. Smith broke him in the third leg of the final with a 75 finish, after which 'Bullyboy' was able to make it 3-1 via double 10. A 120 finish then brought the score to 4-1, followed by another 107 throw for 5-1. Price then threw a 100 check-out, before Smith put a 13-darter to make it 6-2.

With this weekly title, Smith picks up five points for the Premier League rankings, and also collected the weekly prize of 10,000 pounds. The second round of Premier League Darts play will take place next Thursday in Berlin.
