In his pomp,
Michael Smith was one of the best players in the world. Regularly challenging for major titles, he ended up losing in a whole bunch of finals before finally being able to lift some major silverware before a rapid demise. He was asked what his favourite trophy was and in a quickfire questions video by
shotdarts.
'Bully Boy' is mainly known by his 2023 PDC World Darts Championship heroics. He defeated Michael Smith in the final to secure the biggest darting win of his life, and the iconic Sid Waddell trophy. He has also won the Grand Slam of Darts and World Cup of Darts,
World Series of Darts events in China and the USA among other highly regarded events.
When asked the question, he made fun of himself as he highlighted the near misses he had on countless occasions. "I don't know, I've not held many of them, I've held the runners-up ones," he joked.
The obvious prize stands out among the rest. "The World's has definitely got to be up there, but I think the US Masters as well, when I won it, the very first one, the trophy wasn't great, but as the tournaments progressed over the years, the trophy is now looking, it looks special.
Away from the PDC, Smith also has a clear favourite. "And also, coming away from the PDC, the Old Wimbledon trophy, that was a beautiful trophy to look at."
Nine-darter not the hardest
Smith was then tasked with another classic sporting question to do with darts, tasked to choose the most difficult from a 147 break in snooker, a nine-darter and a hole-in-one in golf. This question has done the rounds many times with a clear answer not so common.
Smith still had his say. "147 is the hardest, then it's a nine, the easiest is the Hole in one," he answered.
Smith, who has hit a number of nine-darters in his time on the big stage, is not one for partying after a huge title triumph. "I don't eat before the game, it's literally, get some food, normally peppers, I know they're not going to sponsor me, but I want them to, chicken and rice with peppers.
Afterwards, he winds down in a relaxing fashion. "It's literally straight to bed. I'm not the person who goes out and stuff, I maybe do it once a year, twice a year, but it's literally straight to bed, message the missus, watch YouTube, and then go to sleep."
