Ryan Joyce is successfully through to the second round at the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship after defeating Karel Sedlacek in a drama filled opener on Day Two at the Alexandra Palace.
Joyce survived six match darts in the end from 'Evil Charlie' to move through in a sudden death leg. Krzysztof Ratajski now awaits next Monday for the PDC ranking winner.
The first two legs in the tie were shared on throw before Sedlacek broke with double 10 to move 2-1 and he concluded the first set with a 111 checkout to give himself the early lead.
Joyce though sealed the second set to keep the match level with 'Relentless' claiming it without reply.
But Sedlacek continued to take control as he went one set away from victory with it being 'Evil Charlie's turn to claim it without reply.
It was a pivotal part of the tie following that though with Joyce breaking a vital time with a 78 checkout to make it 2-1 and he concluded the set from there 3-1 to make it 2-2 in sets.
It all came down to one final set to conclude who would go through to the second round. Joyce was first to miss with one dart going begging at double 16 and Sedlacek returned for double 12 to break throw and lead.
He went one away as he took out 84 to hold throw and double his lead but drama followed as he missed his first match darts and Joyce stepped in to halve the deficit and stay alive.
Joyce broke back to send it all the way and the North East ace survived as Sedlacek made it six missed match darts in all and he edged through.
