It was a pivotal part of the tie following that though with Joyce breaking a vital time with a 78 checkout to make it 2-1 and he concluded the set from there 3-1 to make it 2-2 in sets.
It all came down to one final set to conclude who would go through to the second round. Joyce was first to miss with one dart going begging at double 16 and Sedlacek returned for double 12 to break throw and lead.
He went one away as he took out 84 to hold throw and double his lead but drama followed as he missed his first match darts and Joyce stepped in to halve the deficit and stay alive.
Joyce broke back to send it all the way and the North East ace survived as Sedlacek made it six missed match darts in all and he edged through.
