Smith sets up clash with De Sousa after straight sets win over dangerous debutant Evans

Ross Smith is successfully through to a second round clash with Jose de Sousa at the 2020/21 PDC World Darts Championship after seeing off dangerous debutant David Evans in a straight sets victory.

As is often the case, the scoreline did flatter Smith slightly with two deciders seeing him through but it was still impressive from 'Smudger' who hit a 93 average and four 180's.

He wrapped up the first set in style hitting a 112 checkout to wrap it up 3-1 with Evans not able to pin 84 when he was down to a finish first.

When they returned, the high standard continued with Evans breaking in the first leg only for Smith to reply with an 81 checkout to make it 1-1.

It remained level with Smith just doing the right things at the right moments to edge the second set and go into a 2-0 lead.

Evans went 2-1 up in the next set but missed a bull for a 94 checkout and a set win and Smith pounced with a double 18 to send it all the way.

But Evans couldn't take out 25 and Smith returned second dart in hand to move through.
