Michael van Gerwen easily qualified for the quarterfinals of the Dutch Darts Masters 2025. 'Mighty Mike' was 6-1 too strong for Dirk van Duijvenbode in his opening match of this second tournament of the World Series of Darts. He may now prepare for a replay of the past World Cup final against Luke Littler.
Van Gerwen missed the opening tournament of the World Series of Darts last week due to a vacation in Thailand. He then spoke with Viaplay about his absence at the Bahrain Darts Masters. "I enjoyed my vacation. Definitely, nice to unwind, gone away with family. Now we need to get back to darts, right?"
When reporter Arjan van der Giessen noted that Van Gerwen had broken a toe in Thailand, he responded wittily. "You didn't hear that. I told you that. No no, that's annoying, but you're not doing anything about it. It happened last week on vacation. An accident is just a bump in the road."

Home advantage
Van Gerwen had the home crowd on his hand at the Maaspoort in Den Bosch. "Dirk van Duijvenbode maybe thought the Dutch crowd would support him. But against one person he doesn't have that. That's me. A shame for him, but you have to do it yourself in the end."
The 35-year-old Dutchman also touched on his 7-3 defeat in the World Championship final against Luke Littler. "At the moment itself it's very sour, but it wouldn't be fair to myself if I didn't look at this positively. I put up a very nice tournament and played fantastic. Sour that I didn't reward myself, but I can take a lot of satisfaction from it now."
Van Gerwen will get an immediate chance to take revenge against Littler tonight, when he takes on the Englishman, who turned 18 earlier this week, in the quarterfinals of the Dutch Darts Masters.
