Jelle Klaasen on his return to the
European Tour showed some encouraging signs as he saw off Callan Rydz in his opening tie at the
European Darts Grand Prix 6-4 with a 95.7 average.
Klaasen started the match sharp. With an 11-darter Rydz was broken immediately and thanks to a 120 finish, a 13-darter and a 14-darter the lead was 4-1.
Rydz came back to 4-3, but Klaasen kept his break with a 16-darter in the eighth leg. In the tenth leg the Dutchman finished it off with another 16-darter, so Klaasen will face Rob Cross in the next round.
Joe Cullen awaits
Rowby-John Rodriguez who didn't show his form as of late but still got over the line against Jim Williams.
He missed eight match darts from 5-3 up and a further two en route to winning 6-5 in a final leg which saw a stark contrast as he went six darts into a nine-dart finish before sealing the tie.
