The Mullet on a Mission, Danny Jansen swept his compatriot Martijn Kleermaker in a doubling disaster (1/9) for the latter with a 6-1 win sealed to begin his European Darts Grand Prix campaign.
The first leg went to Kleermaker, but after that it was mainly one way traffic for Jansen. Jansen took a double break lead in the fifth with a 68, after Kleermaker had missed five chances to make it 2-3.
'The Dutch Giant' missed two more chances to make it 2-4 in the sixth. Jansen threw a 14-darter for a 5-1 lead and finished it off with a 78 check-out. On Saturday 'The Mullet' will play Brendan Dolan in the second round.
Kim Huybrechts needed the full eleven legs to keep Stephen Bunting at bay. The Belgian saw 'The Bullet' come back to 5-5 after taking a 5-2 lead. Bunting even got a matchdart, but missed his chance on tops. Huybrechts then took the spoils on double 18. Pole Krzysztof Ratajski is the opponent of 'The Hurricane' in the last 32.
While Nathan Rafferty also sealed his first win ever on the European Tour by deflating the hopes of home hero Dragutin Horvat 6-3.
Rafferty went 3-1 up before Horvat levelled up at 3-3. But 'The Natural' swept the remainder of the tie with three legs in a row from there.
