Gerwyn Price silenced the crowd on the opening night of the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship as he survived a scare against Ritchie Edhouse to win 3-1 in sets.
Price opened up the defence of his World title with boos still present from large sections of the crowd but despite a poor start, he recovered from a set down to move through.
This featured a 101.3 average and two 130 checkouts as he moves into the third round where Fallon Sherrock could still await.
Price endured jeers from the crowd on his walk on and snatched at opportunities for an opening break as Edhouse went into the lead.
180's were shared before Edhouse pinned a 56 checkout to go 2-0 with a break and he was throwing for the set which he left Price with only a 170 chance.
He returned but missed a 67 checkout for the set only to return with Price missing a dart to break and Edhouse suddenly led 1-0 in sets,
Edhouse produced a 180 but Price took the lead with a hold of throw in the form of a 60 checkout. He produced a blockbuster 106 checkout but Price had the throw in the decider and he let out a huge roar towards the crowd as he took the set.
'Madhouse' broke throw to go 2-0 up and go to within one set of the finishing line. Price broke straight back with a 72 checkout. He hit double 10 to put it into a last leg decider.
Price hit a 130 checkout on the bull to make it 2-1 in sets. A 180 and double 14 saw Price head into the lead.
He hit another 130 on double five as he went one away from the third round and it was double 16 pinned to go through.
