After impressively whitewashing Niels Zonneveld and coming within millimetres of a match-winning nine-darter, Lewy Williams is understandably full of confidence going into his second-round clash with Michael van Gerwen at the
PDC World Darts Championship.
"I was gutted to be honest," Williams said on his near-miss nine-darter. "I've only ever gone 180, 180, never hit the seventh dart, so I thought in my head 'just give it your best'. When I dropped the dart it was 'oh no here we go again' but after hitting the treble 19 it felt so good, just landed on the wire."
Despite not achieving perfection, Williams was very impressive in his commanding win. Tougher tasks are ahead for the 20-year-old Welshman however as next up is the three-time World Champion and tournament favourite, Michael van Gerwen.
Williams is not afraid of the challenge though, far from it in fact. "I don't fear anyone apart from Beau Greaves," he says with a wry smile. "But I'll go in there with full confidence and if he's off his game, capitalise on and maybe push him and get the win."
